Name: Annie
How long have you worked at Northern Bootcamp? Since September 2015
Describe your job: I am the boot camp cook, I order food, am responsible for monitoring unusual dietary requests and food allergies. I make up recipes and I cook and serve food, as well as putting on cookery demonstrations for the campers.
What’s your favourite aspect of the job? Making up recipes: I love messing about with food!
You had a lot of input into the book, Bootcamp Kitchen – how did you feel when you saw the finished product? Really proud of it! I think it looks amazing and we’ve have had lots of great feedback.
What is your favourite Northern Bootcamp recipe? I like making the snacks, that is one of my nicknames on camp.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? That is way too hard to call variety is the spice of life.
How do you come up with the recipes? Some are adapted from recipes I find, some are made up depending on what’s in the fridge. The hardest part is remembering what I did! I adapt well-loved dishes, but add a Northern Bootcamp twist, so our fish and chips have mushy peas and tartar sauce with it, just healthier versions. Puddings are my speciality, I have made up lots of those.
What do you do in your spare time? I love live music and festivals, rock chef is my other name, I have a Lurcher called Bessie who is nuts and needs a lot of walks on the beach. Working at Northern Bootcamp means looking after myself so I do several exercise classes a week, I also believe it or not still like to cook for friends and family.
