Nicola Smith, a sales rep from Gateshead took part in a Northern Bootcamp in January this year, losing nine pounds within the four-day camp. Previous to the bootcamp Nicola was a member of the local gym and had been a member of weightwatchers. However, throughout Christmas Nicola felt as though she had put on weight and had lost a lot of her fitness.
She was first made aware of the bootcamp by a friend who recommended the four day camp to her and told her a bit about what to expect. After this Nicola decided to take part in the bootcamp: “I liked the idea that every morning you’d have no idea what sort of exercise you were waking up to, all you knew was that it was going to be hard.” Nicola added while she was on the bootcamp, “every day you would get to lunch-time and think can I really go on, but that feeling you get at the end of the day was definitely enough to push-me through.
One thing Nicola makes a point of is the support she got from Dan and Caroline, who run the camp, “They’re just so motivating, they put you completely at ease and you never feel judged by either of them, although they know how to push you out of your comfort zone.
Nicola described: “one thing I was nervous about in attending the camp is whether I’d be behind from everyone else with my fitness, but there are so many different people there with different fitness levels, that it never made a difference.”
Throughout the bootcamp Nicola made many friends who she still keeps in contact with through facebook, “Straight-away we all joined the facebook group and began messaging each other, just last Sunday me and four of the girls I met, went for a long walk together.”
Nicola is hoping to do another camp with her new friends again in September. After taking part in the bootcamp in January this year Nicola lost nine pounds and since taking part in the bootcamp has began re-attending the gym and taking part in regular kettle bell exercise classes. Nicola has also rejoined weight-watchers, and with the aid of the nutritional information provided by Northern bootcamp, has since lost another ten pound.
